Sign up to tell your story on stage at the Samek Art Museum on December 3rd

"Out of the Margins" at the Samek Art Museum will be a night of stories from the LGBTQ+ Community on Saturday, December 3rd. We encourage anyone from the queer community to sign up and participate: Bucknell students, faculty and staff, community members, and those unaffiliated with the school. Stories should be five to ten minutes in length, and — unlike our typical events — there won't be any judging or voting at the end of the night.

Tips for Storytellers

1. Stories can be both funny and poignant, but remember that all good stories have a conflict and a resolution. All stories told at "Out of the Margins" should be true and approximately five to ten minutes in length. No cue cards, phones, or notes are allowed on stage, and please remember that Stories on Tap is not stand-up comedy.

2. Make an outline of your story.  Memorize the main points, but feel comfortable enough that you can relax with the details.  Don't try to memorize every sentence.  Start your story in the action, with a first line that will grab the audience's attention and set the story's conflict.

3. Practice! Practice in front of the mirror, your cat, your BFF.  Practice your story enough that, when you get on stage, you can relax and have fun with it.  Time yourself to make sure you are telling your story in ten minutes or less.

4. Memorize your closing sentence.  When you walk on stage, have it in your head. There's nothing worse than telling a perfect story without a proper closing. Rambling endings destroy stories.

5.  We'd love to hear your story idea ahead of time! Out of respect for our LGBTQ+ friends, all stories for "Out of the Margins" need to be pitched to us prior to the event.
